Job summary

The American Heart Association is seeking motivated students for its Internship Program in Oklahoma. The internship is remote with the intern based in Oklahoma, requiring 20-25 hours per week from 1/25/27 to 5/7/27, and includes occasional travel between Tulsa and Oklahoma City for events and meetings.

Compensation is $23.00 per hour. Participants gain hands-on experience in a nonprofit health organization, supported by Heart U and local/National Center resources, to advance nutrition security

Qualifications

• Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public health, community health, advocacy, or other related degree program.
• Willingness to travel between Tulsa and Oklahoma City for community events and local meetings from time to time.
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Ability to learn quickly and have focused attention to detail.
• Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and basic knowledge of Canva.

Responsibilities

• Assist in organizing/implementing community and culturally appropriate health initiatives and programs throughout communities.
• Support work around community impact priority issues, including hypertension control, nutrition insecurity, community response, and tobacco/vaping.
• Engage rural healthcare centers and community-based organizations.
• Assist with internal program evaluations.
• Support our Nation of Lifesavers Council to improve community readiness throughout Oklahoma.
• Assist the community impact team in communicating the impact of local work.
• Identify impact stories for showcasing, enhance via research and interviews, and develop communication pieces for online or offline sharing.
• Identify, review, and develop resources that meet community health needs such as playbooks and other tools.
• Explore state or local organizations that align with the Association’s priority issue areas and identify opportunities for collaboration.
• Assist with the planning and implementation of trainings and other community impact meetings.
• Attend internal and external meetings as requested, including health fairs and community events as necessary.
