Job summary

Maloney Properties LLC is seeking aCommunity Builder to engage Northgate residents, support leadership development, and coordinate governance activities for a 336-household, resident-owned community in Burlington, VT. The role requires evening/weekend outreach, collaboration with CH Trust and the NROC Board, and occasional travel within Vermont.

You will recruit volunteers, manage communications, and help plan events while advancing access to permanently affordable housing and strong resident

Qualifications

• Three or more years of relevant professional experience in board governance, community relations, social work, community organizing, nonprofit work, marketing, communications, direct service, resident leadership, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with a people-focused approach and the ability to build trusting relationships across diverse communities.
• Demonstrated experience working with low-income, economically challenged, or otherwise vulnerable communities, with a commitment to inclusive, resident-centered programming.

Responsibilities

• Engage with Northgate residents directly to foster participation in site activities and governance; recruit volunteers for Board-led projects and food pantry.
• Create engaging communications for residents via newsletter and social media, promoting resident ownership and leadership opportunities.
• Orient new residents to Northgate’s history and leadership roles; assess residents’ needs with property management to inform Board decisions.
• Seek outside funds for programs and services as directed by the Board; coordinate on-site food pantry and maintain relationships with food resource agencies.
• Support Board members and volunteers in staging community events (Annual Meeting, suppers, BBQ) with logistics and outreach.
• Develop leadership capacities of the Board and plan annual member meetings; maintain corporate records and governance documents.
