Job summary

Cooperative Business Services (CBS) is seeking a Commercial Loan Officer (BDO) near Washington, D.C. to originate and manage commercial lending opportunities in alignment with partner priorities.

You will build and nurture referral networks, guide borrowers through the lending process, and collaborate with underwriting, closing, and administration teams to ensure smooth deal execution while expanding client relationships and market presence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent).
• 5+ years of experience in commercial real estate lending.
• Syndication/participation lending knowledge highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of commercial loan products, credit analysis, and underwriting fundamentals.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage borrowers and partners across levels.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate cross-functionally.
• Proven organizational and project management skills with multiple deals and deadlines.
• Solid financial acumen to interpret statements, assess credit risk, and support lending decisions.
• Knowledge of commercial lending markets, trends, needs, and competition.
• Effective sales and negotiation skills to close deals.

Responsibilities

• Originate, evaluate, and structure commercial loan opportunities including CRE and lines of credit.
• Perform initial financial analysis and pre-screening for creditworthiness.
• Coordinate with underwriting, closing, and administration to move loans to closing.
• Serve as primary contact for borrowers, credit union partners, and internal stakeholders.
• Build and maintain referral networks (CPAs, brokers, attorneys) and represent the organization at events.
• Educate clients and partners on lending solutions and growth opportunities.
• Stay informed on market trends and collaborate on targeted business development initiatives.
• Maintain high levels of responsiveness, professionalism, and service in all interactions.
