Job summary

Brooksource is seeking a Commerce Services Engineer for a 6-month remote contract. You will design and implement cloud-native RESTful APIs supporting digital checkout, native apps, and partner integrations for a robust e-commerce platform.

You will work in an Agile environment, with 4–6 years of software experience and 2+ years on back-end systems, focusing on scalable APIs, payments workflows, and distributed teams.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years building back-end systems.
• 1+ years of experience building scalable RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of OO programming, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with Java, JEE, Spring and related frameworks.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of asynchronous messaging and event-driven architectures.
• Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with e-commerce payment services/payments processing (highly preferred).
• Experience with Adyen or similar payment service providers (strong plus).
• Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git, Chef).
• Experience with containerization/orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Participate in back-end development efforts supporting a robust e-commerce platform.
• Design and implement scalable RESTful APIs using proven design principles and patterns.
• Develop utility functions and cross-cutting modules.
• Build and maintain services supporting e-commerce payment and commerce workflows.
• Collaborate with finance, accounting, product, and other cross-functional teams as needed.
• Work within an Agile/Scrum and test-driven development environment.
• Develop unit and functional tests for code developed.
• Participate in service/change management processes and follow established operational procedures.
• Work independently while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
