Job summary

University Health Network is seeking a Full-Time Coding Supervisor. The role is remote with occasional on-site meetings in Knoxville, TN, and requires HIPAA privacy compliance while working from home.

The supervisor will coordinate coding operations, audit coding and documentation, and develop education for coders, providers, and staff. The ideal candidate has five or more years in risk-adjustment coding and auditing, and holds CPC or RHIT and CRC credentials; CPMA is aPlus.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of risk-adjustment coding and auditing experience.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• CPC or RHIT credential required.
• Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) credential required.
• Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) credential preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
• Strong understanding of healthcare compliance and Medicare and Medicaid billing and documentation requirements.
• Experience auditing E/M and other professional services preferred.
• Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback on coding, billing, and documentation practices.
• Strong knowledge of chart auditing and abstraction processes.
• Effective communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Audit coding and billing documentation for accuracy and compliance; document findings, corrective actions, and follow-up results.
• Maintain working knowledge of coding processes and contribute to chart reviews as scheduling permits.
• Apply relevant HCC coding principles and guidelines.
• Identify training needs and develop and deliver education for coders, providers, and staff on coding, documentation, and applicable regulatory and payer requirements.
• Mentor and collaborate with the coding team, communicate findings constructively, and promote a culture of compliance and integrity.
• Recommend process improvements based on audit results and team needs.
• Stay current with applicable ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, Medicare, Medicaid, payer, and CMS/HHS HCC requirements.
• Maintain required continuing education and applicable AAPC or AHIMA credentials in good standing.
