Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Coding Specialist II to lead training and mentoring for Coding Specialist I staff. The role involves reviewing clinical records, assigning CPT/HCPCS/ICD codes, and ensuring accuracy before charge entry. Proficiency with EPIC and billing systems is preferred.

The position supports 40 hours per week, full-time schedule, and remote work options are available. Prior coding experience in hospital settings is highly valued, with AHIMA or AAPC certification

Qualifications

• Requires CPT and ICD coding experience and proficiency.
• Experience with health information management and coding workflows.
• Experience in hospital or clinical coding environments preferred.
• Knowledge of EPIC and charge-entry processes preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides training, mentoring, and leadership to Coding Specialist I employees.
• Performs daily reconciliation of all clinical services and assigns CPT, HCPCS and ICD codes prior to charge entry.
• Reviews EPIC charge review queues for coding/billing errors and makes corrections.
• Conducts prospective reviews of surgical or procedural visits for proper CPT/HCPCS/ICD coding before charge entry.
• Performs charge entry in EPIC/AS400 or other hospital billing systems as needed.
• Assists with additional duties as required.
