Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a Coding Quality Reviewer and Educator to conduct comprehensive audits of professional coding and medical records. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CPC and/or CCS/CCS-P certification required or in progress.
• Minimum five years of professional coding experience.
• Prior coding audit experience preferred.
• Experience educating providers and coders preferred.
• Proficiency with Epic EHR and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Perform prospective and retrospective audits of professional coding and medical records to verify ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers.
• Evaluate documentation to ensure services billed are supported, necessary, and compliant with CMS and payer policies.
• Document audit findings clearly with variance details and rationale.
• Apply compliant review methodologies per ACDIS/AHIMA guidance.
• Identify root causes and collaborate on corrective action plans.
• Develop and deliver targeted education based on audits and trends.
• Track audit results to identify systemic risks and improvements.
• Research coding guidelines from CMS, MAC, and payers; compile into manuals.
• Stay current on coding updates, certifications, and domain expertise.
• Communicate complex coding concepts to providers and coders.
