Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of professional coding experience.
• CPC or CCS/CCS-P certification required within one year of hire.
• Strong knowledge of CMS, payer policies, and coding guidelines.
• Experience in coding audits and provider/coder education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform prospective and retrospective audits of professional coding and medical records to validate accuracy of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS assignments.
• Evaluate clinical documentation to ensure services billed are supported, medically necessary, and compliant with CMS and payer requirements.
• Document audit findings clearly with supporting rationale; ensure audit defensibility.
• Apply compliant review methods per ACDIS/AHIMA guidance.
• Identify root causes of discrepancies and partner with leadership on corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver targeted education to coders, providers, and clinical departments.
• Track audit results to identify systemic risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Research coding guidelines and compile a practitioner-friendly manual.
