Job summary

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 3 years of experience in medical coding/validating.
• Certification required: CCS, CPC, RHIA or RHIT; specialty certification a plus or willingness to obtain.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Responsibilities

• Consistently apply the corporate values of respect, honesty and fairness with the goal of excellence in improving health status through high-value, accessible services.
• Research coding and documentation guidelines from reliable sources and compile into a user-friendly manual.
• Record training materials and publish them on the Brown University Health Intranet; prepare and conduct education sessions on coding guidelines and examples.
• Review findings from external audits and coordinate related feedback sessions with coders, validators and providers; track internal and external audits.
• Assist with ROI analyses; stay current with ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS updates and payer changes impacting coding/documentation.
• Create and deliver education materials (lesson plans, audiovisual aids, exams) for validators/coders.
