Job summary

UPMC Corporate Revenue Cycle is seeking a Coder II to join the Coding Department. This is a work-from-home position with standard business hours, Monday through Friday.

The role involves coding diagnoses and procedures (ICD-10-CM, CPT, DSM IV where applicable), ensuring accurate charging for injections, infusions, hydration, and observation hours. Prior same-day surgery coding experience is preferred, with opportunities to advance in the coding career.

Qualifications

• High School or GED equivalent.
• Completed AHIMA or AACP-certified Coding program or certificate.
• 2 years hospital coding experience.

Responsibilities

• Review coding for accuracy and completeness prior to submission to billing system using ICD-10-CM, CPT and DSM IV codes and to ensure accurate reimbursement.
• Adhere to internal department policies and participate in monthly coding meetings and ongoing education.
• Meet coding accuracy standards of 98% within the first year and productivity standards.
• Code diagnoses and procedures by assigning principals and secondary codes after reviewing documentation.
• Use hospital information systems and encoders to complete coding efficiently and enter data accurately.
• Identify incomplete documentation and query physicians for clarification when needed.
