Everforth Apex is seeking an experienced Remote COBOL Developer to support HR, Payroll, and Employee Travel systems during a major modernization from PeopleSoft to Workday. The role focuses on production support, batch oversight, and interface troubleshooting across legacy and new platforms, with opportunities to contribute to scalable, reliable workflows.

Responsabilités

Job Description:

REMOTE COBOL Developer

Location: Chicago, Illinois (Remote)

Role Overview

An experienced Mainframe COBOL Developer/SME is sought to support critical HR, Payroll, and Employee Travel applications during a major modernization effort, including the transition from Oracle PeopleSoft to Workday. This role will provide production support, batch processing oversight, interface troubleshooting, and technical expertise for employee travel and workforce systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day production support for mainframe-based HR, Payroll, and Employee Travel applications.
• Troubleshoot COBOL, JCL, batch job, and interface failures, identifying root causes and coordinating resolution.
• Support critical data transmissions and integrations between legacy systems, PeopleSoft, Workday, and downstream applications.
• Analyze production incidents and serve as the primary technical SME for issue triage and remediation.
• Support testing activities, defect resolution, and deployment efforts for modernization initiatives.
• Partner with business and technical teams to deliver stable, scalable solutions.
• Participate in occasional off-hours support for production incidents and critical releases.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of Mainframe development and production support experience.
• Strong COBOL, JCL, and DB2 expertise.
• Experience supporting batch processing, job scheduling, and interface workflows.
• Proficiency with Control-M, SPUFI, File Manager, DB2 Utilities, and related mainframe tools.
• Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues.
• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting HR, Payroll, Benefits, or Workforce Management systems.
• Knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft HCM and Workday integrations.
• Experience with large-scale modernization or migration programs.
• Previous experience supporting airline, travel, or large enterprise workforce systems.
