Optim is seeking a Certified Coder for remote work in the United States. You will obtain hospital dictation and charge slips, apply ICD-10 and CPT coding per payor guidelines, and update physician coding as required.

The role includes posting charges, verifying demographics, and balancing daily postings using Athena and related systems. Responsibilities span auditing documentation, handling precertifications, and maintaining compliance with evolving state and federal rules.

Responsibilities

• Obtains hospital dictation and charge slips; codes with ICD-10 and CPT per payor guidelines.
• Verifies and updates patient demographics before posting charges; creates new accounts as needed.
• Codes and posts charges accurately with modifiers; uses multiple software programs for processing.
• Completes missing slips daily and verifies posting of surgical appointments.
• Prints daily schedule to ensure all cases are posted.
• Runs Missing Slip Report to verify monthly postings.
• Compares pre-cert codes to documentation and notifies providers to authorize changes.
• Records and balances all posted charges daily.
• Assists with coding questions from departments, offices, and patients.
• Posts prepays to surgery charges.
• Handles Athena worklist issues and review of documentation for updates.
• Corrects charges to other carriers as requested; moves charges, payments, and adjustments.
• Audits E/M documentation for all physicians.
• Keeps up to date with state and federal coding changes affecting outcomes.
• Maintains accreditation and licensing in the field.
• Maintains Healthstream yearly courses.
