Job summary

UPMC Corporate Revenue Cycle is hiring a Certified Professional Coder to join our coding team to work on general surgery coding. This position will be a work-from-home position, working Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

Three years of coding experience and general surgery coding experience are required. The coder will handle PQRS codes, assist in template development, provide physician feedback, and participate in audits to improve documentation and reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Three years of medical coding experience required.
• General surgery coding experience preferred.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Identify incomplete documentation and query physicians to obtain missing information.
• Refer problem accounts to coding/management for resolution.
• Meet coding accuracy and productivity standards within department timelines.
• Provide training on code selection for staff.
• Investigate and resolve reimbursement issues including denials.
• Assign PQRS codes and assist in template development for documentation.
• Use CPT/ICD guidelines to ensure accurate billing and review submissions.
• Participate in departmental coding audits and meetings.
