Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist to lead high-complexity chart reviews, ensuring accurate coding and complete patient journeys in the medical record. This remote, full-time role collaborates with physicians and advanced practice providers to resolve documentation gaps and support severity of illness data.

Qualifications

• Clinical Documentation Professional credential from the ACDIS/CDI body obtained prior to hire date.
• High School diploma with 2 years cumulated experience or an Associate's/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience; 5 years CDI experience preferred.
• CCDS or CDIP certification; RN license or CCS credential preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead high-complexity clinical chart reviews to capture accurate diagnosis codes and reflect patient care journeys in the medical record.
• Collaborate with physicians and APs to clarify documentation and support severity of illness and mortality data.
• Drive quality improvement initiatives across market teams to uphold compliance and improve case-mix/index accuracy.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor on evolving coding guidelines and CDI best practices.
