Job summary

Enjoin is seeking a CDI Consultant to audit inpatient records for accurate coding, DRG assignments, and reimbursement compliance. You will review clinical documentation, discuss potential DRG changes with Enjoin physicians, and prepare evidence-based rationales per ICD-10 and AHA Coding Clinic guidance.

As part of the Advisory team in a fully remote role, you will manage deadlines, maintain workpapers, and stay updated on coding updates and client requirements while collaborating with physicians

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management and/or a Registered Nurse credential; other health-related degrees and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
• CCDS, CDIP, or CCS certification, plus an RN license or RHIA credential.
• At least five years of direct experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist or developing a CDI program in an acute care or ambulatory setting.
• At least five years of healthcare management experience and/or two years of CDI consulting experience.
• Strong understanding of CDI program infrastructure, workflows, reporting, and metrics, along with HIM coding workflows.
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, MS-DRG reimbursement, and clinical documentation requirements, with knowledge of MS/APR-DRG methodologies.
• Experience educating or working directly with clinical documentation specialists, coders, and physicians.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with electronic health records, such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.

Responsibilities

• Audit inpatient medical records to validate coding accuracy, clinical validity, DRG assignments, and compliance with facility workflows.
• Review clinical documentation, medications, lab results, and orders to identify documentation gaps and develop concise, compliant physician queries.
• Discuss potential DRG changes and physician query opportunities with Enjoin physicians before submitting recommendations to clients.
• Write clear audit rationales supported by ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Coding Guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic guidance.
• Follow AHIMA/ACDIS query compliance guidance and stay current on coding updates, reimbursement trends, and client requirements.
• Use client reports, workflow systems, and encoder tools to complete reviews and document findings accurately.
• Meet engagement deadlines and maintain a minimum productivity standard of three chart reviews per hour.
• Maintain complete, timely engagement workpapers and contribute ideas to improve quality, workflows, and productivity.
