Northeastern University is seeking a Cash Accountant to support NU-RES Finance, processing electronic payments and deposits, applying payments in Workday, and assisting with grant closeouts and sponsorship payments. The role requires attention to detail, collaboration with multiple departments, and maintaining audit-ready records.

The position supports audits, generates financial reports post-close, and helps document SOPs while staying current with federal regulations and sponsor rules.

Qualifications

• BS/BA required.
• 2-4 years of work experience.
• Strong technical skills with MS Office 365 including Excel, Word, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proven customer service skills.
• Knowledge and experience in finance and general accounting practices; AR experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• 40% - Payment Processing: Record, identify/assign, and apply incoming payments; manage unidentified and unapplied payments; maintain payment logs and bank accounts.
• 35% - Cash Accounting and Reconciliations: Prepare entries for cash corrections, sponsor refunds, write-offs, and grant closeouts; reconcile balances.
• 20% - Collections and Closeouts: Support collection efforts; research payments and open AR; resolve bad debt and write-offs.
• 5% - Operations, Audits and Special Projects: Develop SOPs, support audits, and drive process improvements.

Education

BS/BA required

2-4 years of experience

Strong MS Office 365 skills (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams)

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

Customer service skills

Finance and general accounting practices knowledge

Experience in AR, B2B accounting
