Job summary

Proximity Learning is seeking a Virtual Reading Specialist/CALT to deliver research-based reading intervention remotely, addressing decoding, fluency, and comprehension while collaborating with teachers, families, and special education teams.

You will conduct telehealth assessments, prepare progress reports, participate in IEP and eligibility meetings, and monitor individual intervention plans, all within FERPA/HIPAA compliant practices in a fully remote setting.

Qualifications

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Reading Education, or related field from an accredited program.
• Valid state credential/license as a Reading Specialist or CALT credential (New Mexico).
• Strong working knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and state-specific special education regulations.
• Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, professional intervention and progress reports.
• Comfort and proficiency with virtual platforms (video conferencing, electronic IEP systems, digital reading tools).
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage student caseloads and competing deadlines efficiently.
• Reliable high-speed internet connection and a private, confidential workspace for telehealth and instructional services.

Responsibilities

• Deliver live, interactive one-on-one virtual reading intervention sessions tailored to student-specific learning goals and IEP objectives.
• Utilize explicit, systematic, structured, and multi-sensory teaching strategies (such as Orton-Gillingham or CALT methods) to address decoding, encoding, fluency, and reading comprehension.
• Conduct informal reading assessments and progress monitoring via telehealth-compatible platforms and tools to evaluate literacy growth.
• Write clear, thorough, and compliant progress reports within required district and state timelines. Participate in virtual IEP, 504, and eligibility meetings as part of the multidisciplinary team, presenting literacy findings and recommendations to families and educators as needed.
• Develop and monitor individual intervention plans in direct collaboration with classroom teachers and special education support staff.
• Consult with teachers, parents/guardians, and administrators on effective strategies to support student literacy in the virtual classroom environment.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and applicable state special education regulations.
• Collaborate with the ESS/PLI team and district partners to ensure continuity of services and smooth case management. Stay current on best practices in structured literacy, telehealth service delivery, and applicable state/federal regulations.
