Job summary

Proximity Learning is seeking a Virtual Reading Specialist / Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) to deliver one-on-one reading intervention in a fully remote setting, focusing on decoding, fluency, and comprehension aligned with IEP objectives. You will work with students, families, and school teams through telehealth platforms.

You will write progress reports, monitor progress, and participate in IEP/504 meetings.

Qualifications

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Reading Education, or related field.
• Valid state credential as Reading Specialist or CALT in New Mexico.
• Knowledge of IDEA/504/FERPA and state regulations.
• Proficient with virtual platforms and IEP systems.
• Excellent written communication and report writing.

Responsibilities

• Deliver live, interactive one-on-one virtual reading intervention sessions tailored to student-specific learning goals and IEP objectives.
• Utilize explicit, systematic, structured, and multi-sensory teaching strategies (such as Orton-Gillingham or CALT methods) to address decoding, encoding, fluency, and reading comprehension.
• Conduct informal reading assessments and progress monitoring via telehealth-compatible platforms and tools to evaluate literacy growth.
• Write clear, thorough, and compliant progress reports within required district and state timelines.
• Participate in virtual IEP, 504, and eligibility meetings as part of the multidisciplinary team, presenting literacy findings and recommendations to families and educators as needed.
• Develop and monitor individual intervention plans in direct collaboration with classroom teachers and special education support staff.
• Consult with teachers, parents/guardians, and administrators on effective strategies to support student literacy in the virtual classroom environment.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and applicable state regulations.
• Collaborate with the ESS/PLI team and district partners to ensure continuity of services and smooth case management.
