Job summary

SciLine, a program of AAAS, is seeking a Visiting Scientific Outreach Specialist to join a fast-paced newsroom-like team. This full-time, two-year position focuses on identifying, vetting, and recruiting scientific experts, including Spanish-speaking scientists, for journalists on deadline.

The ideal candidate will be bilingual in English and Spanish, possess strong research and data-analysis skills, and be able to build relationships with scientists and organizations to expand SciLine’s

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a scientific discipline, social sciences a plus.
• Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
• Excellent research skills and scientific rigor.
• Ability to build relationships with scientists and institutions.
• Ability to read and extract meaning from scientific papers.
• Experience with qualitative/quantitative data analysis is a plus.
• Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, R and/or Salesforce is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Identify experts from SciLine’s database and vet their expertise for journalists.
• Recruit scientists to participate in interviews with local and national media.
• Expand SciLine’s database of experts, including bilingual and diverse backgrounds.
• Analyze data to assess the efficacy and value of SciLine’s services.
• Participate in other SciLine activities such as briefings or interviews as needed.
