Job summary

Muon Space is seeking a Benefits & Payroll Administrator focused on delivering an exceptional employee experience. You will lead day-to-day payroll and benefits, navigate multi-state compliance, and champion a frictionless experience for the People Operations team.

You’ll thrive in fast-paced environments with a strong emphasis on precision and empathy. This role is open to candidates in San Jose, CA, Mountain View, CA, or fully remote, with a preference for West Coast locations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in multi-state payroll and benefits within fast-paced startups.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication with a service mindset.
• Proven multi-state payroll compliance experience and state registrations.
• Experience leading or supporting internal data hygiene checks and external audits.
• Ability to manage sensitive compensation data with discretion and confidentiality.
• Proficient with Google Workspace, Slack, and HRIS/payroll platforms, with automation focus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver accurate, timely multi-state payroll for all employees.
• Serve as primary contact for payroll and benefits inquiries with empathy.
• Manage post-payroll 401(k) deferrals remittance to plan provider.
• Oversee day-to-day benefits operations and open enrollment planning.
• Support payroll registrations and tax setup for new states during expansion.
• Conduct internal audits and support external audits for compliance.
• Maintain HRIS data accuracy to enable smooth self-service tools.
