Muon Space is seeking a Benefits & Payroll Administrator who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You will manage day-to-day payroll, benefits, and compliance across multiple states while delivering a frictionless employee experience for a distributed team.

The role emphasizes careful data handling, cross-functional collaboration with People Ops, and leveraging automation to streamline processes. Remote work is allowed with a preference for West Coast location.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in multi-state payroll and benefits administration in fast-paced environments.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication with a service mindset.
• Proven experience handling multi-state payroll compliance and new-state registrations.
• Direct experience leading or supporting payroll and benefits audits (401k, Workers' Comp).
• Discretion handling confidential compensation and benefits data.
• Comfort with Google Workspace, Slack, and HRIS/payroll platforms; automation friendly.

Responsibilities

• Deliver flawless, multi-state payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees on a timely basis.
• Be the primary high-touch contact for payroll and benefits inquiries with clear guidance.
• Oversee 401(k) deferrals and funding with accurate, compliant transmission.
• Manage day-to-day benefits operations and open enrollment planning with brokers.
• Support payroll tax setup and compliance as we expand to new states nationwide.
• Conduct internal audits of payroll/benefits and lead external audits with precision.
• Maintain accurate HRIS data for smooth cross-platform workflows and self-service.
