Job summary

Athra Systems is seeking an experienced Remote Behavioral Health Medical Coder to join our remote coding team. You will review provider documentation and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and E/M codes for behavioral health services, supporting accurate reimbursement and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate has a CCS credential, 3+ years of professional medical coding (5+ preferred), inpatient and outpatient experience, and strong knowledge of current guidelines.

Qualifications

• Current CCS credential required.
• Minimum 3 years of professional medical coding experience; 5+ years preferred.
• Behavioral health coding experience strongly preferred.
• Experience coding inpatient and outpatient encounters.
• Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and current E/M guidelines.
• Ability to independently review documentation, apply guidelines, and assign codes with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review provider documentation and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and E/M codes.
• Code inpatient and outpatient behavioral health encounters per official guidelines.
• Ensure documentation supports all assigned codes.
• Identify documentation deficiencies requiring clarification.
• Research coding questions using official resources and payer guidance.
• Maintain coding accuracy while meeting departmental productivity expectations.
• Work collaboratively with billing and internal departments to resolve coding-related issues.
• Maintain professional communication across departments and participate in coding quality initiatives.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and stay current on ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and E/M guideline updates.
