Job summary

Whatnot is seeking a Data Scientist for the Seller Merchant team to help sellers onboard, inventory, and optimize listings with data-driven decisions. You will analyze differences across seller segments, design experiments, and build frameworks to drive product strategy and seller success.

You will work closely with Product, Engineering, and Design to turn questions into testable hypotheses and measurable outcomes, using advanced analytics in a fast-paced live commerce environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in product data science, analytics, or related field.
• Strong product and business judgment; translate questions into hypotheses, analyses, experiments, and recommendations.
• Deep knowledge of experimentation, causal inference, and statistics; Bayesian methods are a plus.
• Advanced SQL and Python proficiency; able to investigate data and evaluate AI-assisted work.

Responsibilities

• Identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities to improve seller success.
• Design and evaluate experiments across the seller experience with Product, Engineering, and Design.
• Develop analytical frameworks to shape product strategy and measure seller success.
• Analyze differences across seller size, maturity, category, country, and inventory type to tailor experiences.
• Apply analytics to imperfect data and collaborate with product leaders to balance evidence and judgment.
