Job summary

Freehand is seeking a Backend Engineer to build the distributed systems, APIs, and AI agent infrastructure powering enterprise AI-driven execution. You will design scalable backend services that orchestrate agents, enforce business rules, and integrate with ERPs and financial systems.

This role focuses on high-throughput, secure data pipelines and observability, not CRUD SaaS, with work spanning US and India as a remote-first team.

Qualifications

• Production-grade backend systems experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Node.js, or Go.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, APIs, microservices, databases (SQL/NoSQL), and messaging.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services powering AI agent execution.
• Implement orchestration logic coordinating AI agents, humans, and enterprise systems.
• Build and maintain APIs consumed by internal and external systems.
• Integrate with ERP, procurement platforms, and payment gateways.
• Instrument observability with tracing, metrics, and logs for reliable AI-driven workflows.
• Ensure secure data pipelines and compliance for financial/operated data.
