Job summary

American College of Education is seeking a Cloud Engineer to design, build, and optimize our Azure-based cloud platform. You will automate deployments, implement IaC, and collaborate with security, infrastructure, and development teams to drive modernization.

You will maintain monitoring, governance, and cost management while ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and incident response readiness across our cloud environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience administering and supporting cloud infrastructure, with a focus on Microsoft Azure.
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting cloud-based solutions in Azure, including compute, storage, networking, security, and identity services.
• Hands-on experience with IaC tools such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or equivalent automation frameworks.
• Experience developing, maintaining, and supporting CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
• Proficiency with scripting and automation technologies such as PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, Bash, or comparable tools.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking concepts (VNets, VPNs, load balancing, private endpoints, DNS, firewalls, and network security controls).
• Experience implementing cloud security best practices (IAM, RBAC, conditional access, secrets management, vulnerability remediation).
• Experience with monitoring/observability (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights).
• Knowledge of source control (Git-based repositories).
• Familiarity with high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and BC planning.
• Understanding of governance, compliance, cost management, and operational best practices.
• Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure and performance issues.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
• Experience working with infrastructure, security, development, and business teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and maintain cloud infrastructure primarily within Microsoft Azure.
• Implement and manage IaC solutions using Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or similar technologies.
• Develop, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments.
• Automate operational processes, provisioning tasks, system maintenance, and configuration management.
• Monitor cloud resources, platform health, performance, and availability, proactively identifying issues.
• Manage Azure networking components including VNets, VPNs, firewalls, and private endpoints.
• Implement and maintain cloud security controls, IAM, RBAC, and governance policies.
• Collaborate with development teams to support deployment, release management, and cloud-native architecture initiatives.
• Develop and maintain monitoring and observability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
• Support high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity strategies.
• Perform cloud platform upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management with minimal disruption.
• Optimize Azure resource utilization and cloud spending through capacity planning and cost management.
• Troubleshoot issues across development, testing, and production environments.
• Establish cloud environment standards, guardrails, and governance frameworks.
• Partner with security teams to remediate vulnerabilities and implement best practices.
• Maintain source control repositories, branching strategies, and release workflows.
• Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and automation tools to improve capabilities.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and procedures.
• Participate in incident response and root cause analysis to improve reliability.
