Great American Employer Health Solutions, part of Great American Insurance Group, seeks an Assistant Vice President of Underwriting. This fully remote role leads underwriting operations, develops strategies, and builds a high-performing team for medical stop loss and level-funded plans.

Travel is required to support stakeholder relationships. The position emphasizes risk selection, pricing, and portfolio performance, with a focus on regulatory compliance and profitable growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Minimum of 13 years underwriting or related experience, including at least 6 years of leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of risk evaluation, pricing, portfolio performance, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience in group health, medical stop loss, level-funded plans or closely related market is preferred.

Responsabilités

• Lead underwriting team operations, optimize workflows, and maintain high standards for productivity, quality, and service.
• Develop and implement underwriting strategies aligned with division goals, growth objectives, and financial targets.
• Evaluate quality, volume, and performance of underwritten risks and report findings clearly.
• Balance risk selection, premium adequacy, and loss ratio performance in decisions.
• Cultivate strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support profitable growth.
• Provide coaching and develop underwriting talent for team performance and succession readiness.
• Ensure underwriting decisions comply with state and federal requirements.
• Oversee renewals and policy modifications to improve performance and mitigate risk.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and drive improvements based on feedback and metrics.
• Maintain underwriting guidelines, rules, and rating methodologies in response to changes.
• Collaborate across functions to improve processes and portfolio management.
