Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a qualified engineer for our Electric Power Division to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, working independently and with teams across locations.

The role involves travel of 35-50% and a salaried exempt position with overtime eligibility. Compensation ranges from $89,210 to $133,810 with benefits and relocation not offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred
• Experience with automation and controls required or preferred
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints
• Knowledge of power systems including switchgear, ATS, and generator systems

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities; define project scope and support proposals.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV generator control systems.
• Migrate legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Collaborate with CAD to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform technical risk assessments and support field performance.
• Prepare project documentation, reports and expenses promptly.
• Train technicians and customers on maintenance, troubleshooting, and system operation.
