Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is a global leader seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to support design, development, and implementation of generator control switchgear systems.

You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, executing retrofit and new projects from concept through commissioning. The role requires PLC and HMI development, cross-functional collaboration with CAD, dealers, and factory teams, and frequent travel (35-50%).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
• Customer-focused with ability to tailor solutions to client needs.
• Strong service mindset and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Technical excellence across automation, controls, and power systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities, define project scope, and support proposals with dealers and factory teams.
• Design, program, test, and commission low- and medium-voltage generator control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Partner with CAD designers for wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform risk assessments and support field performance of projects.
• Submit project documentation, reports and expenses promptly.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
