Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. offers a remote-based engineering role in the Electric Power Division, focusing on the design, development, and implementation of generator control switchgear systems.

You will deliver automation solutions for power systems, working independently and with teams from concept through commissioning. Requirements include a BSEE/BSEET or equivalent experience, and hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, and control architectures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
• Experience with automation and controls across power systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with dealers and factory teams.
• Design, program, test, and commission low- and medium-voltage generator control systems.
• Convert legacy PLCs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Collaborate with CAD to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform risk assessments and support field performance.
• Submit project documentation and expenses timely.
• Train technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
