Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an Associate Project Restoration Engineer to advance ecological restoration in North Carolina and the Southeast. The role supports stream, wetland, and coastal restoration with strong hydraulics, hydrology, and geomorphology skills, using AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydraulic models.

The position offers hybrid work in the Charlotte area or fully remote within the SW USA, with occasional travel for fieldwork and client meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Agricultural, Biological, Civil, Environmental, or Coastal Engineering)
• EI certification (Engineering Intern)
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time for field data collection and client meetings
• Experience with HEC-RAS and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software
• Experience developing ecological restoration design construction plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D

Responsibilities

• Leads management activities: oversee tasks, schedules, budgets, and deliverables for projects
• Develops restoration designs: stream, wetland, living shorelines, nature-based infra
• Conducts field investigations and analyses for restoration projects
• Prepares construction drawings, specs, and contract docs
• Oversees permitting and regulatory documentation
• Performs modeling and calculations to optimize designs
• Coordinates with multidisciplinary teams to integrate engineering and environmental science
• Provides construction-phase services and on-site issue resolution
• Engages with clients and stakeholders to communicate goals and progress
• Mentors junior staff and fosters team growth
• Follows federal, state, local, and industry regulations
• Performs related duties as assigned
• Develop construction plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D; support site civil tasks as needed
• Perform hydraulics/hydrology assessments and modeling for projects
• Communicate with project managers to keep on schedule and budget
• Attend internal design training and pursue personal-skills growth
• Work independently in a fast-paced environment; manage safety proactively

Education
