Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants in Lombard, IL is seeking a Project Restoration Engineer to lead stream and wetland restoration projects in the Great Lakes region. The role emphasizes hydraulic, hydrologic, and geomorphologic design, with AutoCAD Civil 3D and modeling work.

The position is full-time, benefits-eligible, with hybrid or distributed work options. Travel to project sites is occasional; PE license preferred, with 4–7 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Coastal etc.).
• PE license required; 4+ years of restoration design experience.
• Ability to travel up to 20% for field data collection and meetings.
• Experience with HEC-RAS and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling.
• Experience developing restoration design construction plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Leads management activities with schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Develops restoration designs including stream/wetland restoration and living shorelines.
• Performs field investigations and analyses to optimize solutions.
• Creates construction drawings, specs, and contract documents.
• Manages permitting processes and regulatory documentation.
• Uses modeling tools to evaluate design performance and impacts.
• Coordinates with multidisciplinary teams to integrate science and engineering.
• Provides construction-phase services and on-site problem solving.
• Engages with clients to communicate goals and progress.
• Mentors junior staff and supports professional growth.
• Follows applicable regulations and company standards.
