Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an Associate Director for Self-Pay Insourcing & Vendor Operations to lead in-house self-pay pre-bill intervention and vendor-backed collections. You will scale insourced CoE staffing, manage end-to-end A/R performance, and drive cash acceleration while partnering with external agencies for performance governance.

The role supports remote work from anywhere in the U.S., with a requirement for on-site presence in Minneapolis or Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, including self-pay operations, insurance A/R, patient billing operations, or vendor operations.
• 3+ years of experience directly managing a team of 8+ FTEs, including staffing and performance management.
• 2+ years of experience overseeing third-party collection agencies or billing vendors with SLAs and scorecards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel to build liquidation, aging, and cash-performance trend reports.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day management of in-house Self-Pay pre-bill intervention and collections teams, scaling from pilot to steady-state.
• Own contact center performance for insourced teams, KPI/SLA benchmarks, and staffing transitions with WFM.
• Drive cash acceleration for retained self-pay accounts, targeting high-propensity-to-pay within 60 days.
• Monitor end-to-end self-pay A/R inventory performance and reconcile across host systems and vendor platforms.
• Lead vendor operations reviews, monitor SLAs, and implement corrective actions when needed.
• Coordinate handoffs between in-house teams and vendor partners to ensure clean transitions.
