Job summary

Long Island Rail Road is seeking a Project Manager to assist in managing design and construction consultants, construction contractors, and developers to ensure projects meet schedules and budget criteria. This role provides PM support to Project Managers and Directors within the Special Projects/ESA Department and coordinates with 3rd party contractors.

Qualifications

• Prior construction/engineering/manufacturing/project management experience.
• Must have related project management experience preferably in an operation, transportation, engineering or manufacturing environment/industry.
• Knowledge of the construction industry (building, bridges, railroad facilities, civil, electrical, mechanical trades, signal, communications and power).
• Strong working knowledge of project scheduling and estimating for construction trades (all disciplines).
• Proficient computer application skills (Windows Environment-Microsoft Office).
• Business administration skills (i.e., report writing and spreadsheets).
• Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Proven leadership abilities, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to the PM and Senior PM in managing the work of consultants, contractors, LIRR/Amtrak Force Account and private developers to ensure that established schedule and budget criteria are met.
• Assist the PM in managing and coordinating activities of various Railroad departments, other MTA agencies, Amtrak and outside stakeholders. To ensure that necessary approvals are obtained, work inspections are performed, and contract/safety guidelines are followed.
• Prepare reports, presentations, research and studies, run project meetings, prepare minutes, coordinate in-house and 3rd party interfaces, review and approve transmittals and various budget and administration reports.To advise management of job progress. To assure that all project control procedures are followed.
• Prepare scopes and supervise the preparation of schedules and estimates. Review the validity of the cost and schedule impact associated with contract changes and participate in all change order negotiations. To ensure finished product meets Railroad’s standards and satisfies user department’s needs. To assure the most cost effective and usable product.
• Assist in coordinating and integrating Operations, Engineering, 3rd party Contractors and other departments to support testing and commissioning. Assist in managing and coordinating all testing and commissioning activities for the projects and all 3rd party documents and transmittals.
• Perform other assignments as requested by Senior Management.
• Provide timely, accurate information as needed upon special request.
• Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to guidelines of company safety policies and procedures. Lead by example to reduce number of employee and customer accidents.
• Select, develop, and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling.
