Job summary

DeafLEAD seeks an experienced American Sign Language Interpreter to join its Interpreting Services team. This remote, full-time exempt role reports to the Director of Interpreting and supports the 988 crisis line with flexible scheduling across shifts.

Required are ASL fluency, a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent, and a Master-level interpreting certification. Missouri license within 3 months is covered by DeafLEAD.

Qualifications

• Must complete 40 hours crisis line trainings upon hire.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in psychology, social work, or related field.
• Advanced or Master level interpreting certification accepted.
• Hold Missouri license within 3 months of employment (license cost covered).
• ASL fluency is required.
• Minimum age 18.
• Pass a background check.
• Caring, empathetic with Deaf culture experience.
• Strong English writing/reading comprehension.
• Proficient with Zoom and standard office apps; learn new tech quickly.
• Remain calm in crisis situations.
• Respect diverse backgrounds and identities.
• Access to private, secure workspace for confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Follow DeafLEAD’s policies and procedures.
• Attend monthly agency in-service meetings.
• Provide interpreting for training of 988 Chat & Text crisis counselors.
• Provide interpreting for evaluations of 988 counselors.
• Provide interpreting for 988 Chat & Text shifts as needed.
• Provide interpreting for training of 988 Videophone crisis counselors.
• Provide interpreting for evaluations of 988 Videophone counselors.
• Provide interpreting across departments as needed.
• Maintain daily time sheets.
• Travel as required.
• Other duties as assigned.
