Job summary

Baltimore Orioles is seeking an Area Scout to identify and evaluate amateur prospects for the First-Year Player Draft, with remote work and duties across scouting assignments. This full-time exempt role reports to the Assistant Director, Draft Operations.

You will use in-person looks, video, data, and technology to inform decisions, write scouting reports, and build relationships with players and families. Bachelor’s degree required; extensive hours, travel, and prior scouting-related experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Willingness to work long hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and in adverse outdoor conditions.
• Ability to own and operate a vehicle and travel extensively.
• Strong self-motivation, self-organization, and attention to detail.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• High computer and internet proficiency.
• Strong knowledge of baseball information and evaluation.
• At least 3 years' experience in scouting, coaching, education, business, or related fields.
• Prior playing experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and recommend amateur players for the First-Year Draft.
• Communicate and collaborate with Orioles employees across the organization.
• Utilize in-person looks, video, data, and technology to enhance decision making on players.
• Compose scouting reports on draft-eligible players.
• Build relationships with players and families of players.
• Build and maintain relationships with baseball community members.
• Complete comprehensive assessments of players' backgrounds and makeup.
• Plan and organize workouts to evaluate players.
• Maintain area schedule and prioritize top prospects.
• Collect video on draft eligible players and upload to video system.
• Perform and execute Pro Scouting coverage as assigned.
• Represent Orioles organization in a professional manner.
