Job summary

Astronomer is hiring an Airflow Reliability Engineer for the Customer Reliability Engineering (CRE) team to provide Apache Airflow expertise to customers and help them maximize our managed Airflow service.

You will join a distributed, remote-friendly team and work across Airflow, Kubernetes, and cloud engineering while engaging with customers’ data engineers and DevOps teams. A mandatory in-person interview is part of the process.

Qualifications

• Data engineering background required.
• 4 years of Python experience.
• 1 year of Airflow administration and DAG creation.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containers.
• Experience with distributed systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication for customer interactions.
• Experience mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

• Learn and build expertise across software engineering disciplines including Airflow, Kubernetes, and cloud engineering.
• Solve challenging Airflow problems for customers, from configuration optimization to world-first bug discovery.
• Spend up to 20% on side projects contributing to Airflow and Astronomer's internal monitoring tools.
• Work with customers’ data engineers, system admins, DevOps teams, and management.
• Own the customer experience, prioritize issues, meet SLAs, and provide “white glove” guidance to production.
• Participate remotely within a fully distributed team.
• Help maintain 24x7 coverage via a 6-hour pager period during your work day.
• Participate in paid on-call rotation for weekend coverage.
