Job summary

Brunel is partnering with DataAnnotation to connect experienced Mechanical Engineers with an AI training program. Fully remote, project-based work with a flexible schedule. Starts around 10 hours/week, with potential for 30–40 hours/week; part-time considered.

Pay rate ranges from $40 to $125+ USD/hour, paid via PayPal. Eligibility includes professionals in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience in design, product development, manufacturing, or related disciplines.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanics of materials, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and manufacturing.
• Experience with CAD platforms (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor) or similar tools; FE A/ CFD is a plus.
• Ability to develop precise, rigorous engineering problems and clearly explain the reasoning behind correct solutions.
• Ability to articulate why an engineering answer or design is incorrect, not just that it is wrong.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify edge cases and potential failures.
• Comfort working with AI tools or willingness to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

• Design challenging, closed-ended mechanical engineering problems based on your professional experience.
• Derive and verify correct answers with rigorous worked solutions and methodologies.
• Test problems against advanced AI models and refine challenges to probe reasoning.
• Evaluate AI-generated mechanical analyses, designs, and calculations for real-world applicability.
• Compare AI-generated solutions and identify strengths, weaknesses, and errors.
• Identify concrete failures, incorrect assumptions, or misinterpretations in solutions.
• Review problems and solutions from other contributors for correctness and relevance.
• Apply expertise across mechanical design, structures, thermal systems, dynamics, manufacturing, or related disciplines.
