Job summary

Next Step Systems is seeking a Product Engineer for AI Email Applications. The role is 100% remote, requiring hands-on work with ML/AI teams to define system behavior, measurement, and improvement. You will evaluate model outputs, design experiments, and ensure reliable AI-powered user experiences. A 60-minute coding assessment is required.

The position emphasizes deep technical ownership, strong judgment, and collaboration across ML, backend, and client engineers to ship impactful AI features.

Qualifications

• Experience with AI/ML and their production systems.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and system design skills.
• Experience owning complex technical products end-to-end.
• Ability to read and reason about technical designs and architectures.

Responsibilities

• Define end-to-end AI capabilities from model behavior to system behavior and UX.
• Translate model capabilities and constraints into product decisions.
• Trade off quality, latency, cost, reliability, safety, and UX.
• Collaborate with ML, backend, and client engineers on design, evaluation, and iteration.
• Establish evaluation frameworks across offline metrics, online experiments, and human feedback.
