Job summary

Premera Blue Cross is hiring an AI Engineer III for a remote/telecommuter role in the United States. You will design and deliver dependable AI/ML systems, moving solutions from concept through production while collaborating cross-functionally to prototype, deploy, and maintain models at scale.

Responsibilities include building, refining, and productionizing AI systems using cloud resources such as Azure OpenAI, Azure ML, and Cognitive Services, plus creating robust data pipelines.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in CS, Statistics, Mathematics or related field or 2+ years of relevant IT/analytics experience.
• Minimum 3 years of industry experience developing, deploying, and maintaining AI/ML systems.
• At least 4 years developing deep learning models with TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLX, JAX or similar frameworks.
• Experience implementing ethical AI practices with explainable AI, fairness and bias mitigation.
• 3+ years in Agile-like teams and environment; strong collaboration skills.
• Proficiency in Python and libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, scikit-learn).

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive AI systems and frameworks for applications and products.
• Build prototypes and MVPs to validate AI/ML approaches before scaling.
• Productionize AI systems using cloud resources (Azure OpenAI, Azure ML, Cognitive Services).
• Contribute to robust data pipelines supporting model evolution and production systems.
• Define specifications for low-latency APIs and services to deploy AI models.
• Sustain AI systems in production ensuring accuracy and reliability.
• Guide junior engineers and share best practices; mentor peers.
• Stay current on tools and concepts via documentation and learning.
• Support external stakeholder meetings and cross-functional collaboration.
