Job summary

ICF International is seeking an AI Engineer to design and operationalize AI/ML and NLP capabilities for federal programs. The role focuses on scalable AI, MLOps, and governance using Databricks ML, Azure ML, and Python. Remote work is available with occasional on-site meetings in Washington, DC.

The candidate should have extensive experience building AI applications, implementing safety controls, and collaborating across engineering, governance, and business teams. U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in CS/AI/ML or related field; Master’s may substitute for 2 years experience.
• 6+ years designing, developing, deploying AI/ML in enterprise cloud environments.
• Strong programming in Python, SQL, and modern AI/ML libraries.

Responsibilities

• Develop NLP, text analytics, prompt orchestration, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop workflows using VA-approved AI/ML tools.
• Translate unstructured data use cases into repeatable patterns addressing privacy, provenance, evaluation, monitoring, and integration.
• Collaborate with Trustworthy AI, Security, Data Governance, and Customer Experience teams to ensure safe, useful, governed AI.
• Apply NLP, GenAI patterns, prompt orchestration, retrieval/evaluation patterns, guardrails and Azure AI to support role delivery.
• Work with product, engineering, security, governance, quality, and customer-facing stakeholders as required.
• Document work products, decisions, risks, and evidence to support traceability and improvement.
