Job summary

Good Shepherd Services, Ltd in Brooklyn is seeking Relief Youth Development Counselor to support our Residential Programs. This per-diem, non-exempt role is onsite at 480 Vermont Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11207, offering 17-20 hours weekly with day, evening and overnight shifts and some weekends.

You will supervise residents, help meet basic needs, provide individual and group counseling where appropriate, and coordinate court-ordered visits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Valid New York State driver’s license required.
• Must be able to complete and pass all components of required physical intervention training.
• Must successfully complete a pre-hire physical ability test.
• Ability to perform physical restraint of youth using approved restraint procedures.
• Must be capable of sustained physical exertion and have no limitations on ability to engage in necessary physical intervention activities.
• Commitment to work from a strength based, youth development and trauma-informed perspective.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and be accountable for the whereabouts of residents at all times.
• Manage residents' behavior; maintain order.
• Coordinate court ordered visits and safe transportation for residents.
• Participate in planning and execution of educational, recreational, and personal enrichment activities.
• Maintain records, logs, reports and adhere to documentation requirements.
• Attend mandatory training and ensure compliance with DYFJ and OCFS regulations.
