Job summary

PAQ, Inc. is seeking a Front-End Supervisor to oversee checkout and front-end operations, including supervising Combo Clerks and ensuring accurate cash handling across all payment types.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the activities of employees in the checkout area and front-end operations to ensure smooth store performance.
• Supervise Combo Clerks, assign duties, schedule breaks, and provide on‑the‑job training as needed.
• Count cashiers at the beginning and end of each shift and assist in processing transactions (cash, checks, coupons, and electronic payments including debit, credit, gift cards, EFS, EBT, and WIC).
• Provide override and register error assistance to Combo Clerks and address any register discrepancies or issues.
• Inspect and address returned merchandise with appropriate procedures.
• Comply with state and federal regulations (e.g., Alcoholic Beverage Control and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives) including selling alcohol only during appropriate hours, checking IDs, and preventing sales to minors or intoxicated individuals.
• Supervise self-checkout (SCO) stations, ensuring accuracy in scanning, payments, and troubleshooting as needed.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of ongoing promotions and store policies to provide accurate information to customers.
• Monitor safety and report potentially unsafe conditions or suspicious activities to maintain a safe store environment.
• Maintain a favorable department image by keeping the area clean, attractive, and customer-friendly.
• Perform Combo Clerk or other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Over two years of experience as a cashier is preferred; on‑the‑job training is provided; previous retail experience is an added advantage.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Knowledge of store policies, procedures, safety regulations, and cash handling.
• Familiarity with handling cash and payment transactions; basic computer skills for operating the POS system.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving, and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Ability to operate POS systems and other cashier equipment; attention to detail in transactions and cash handling.
• Ability to adapt to changing situations, manage multiple demands, and work with diverse personalities; ability to make informed decisions quickly in high‑pressure environments.
• Ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for extended periods (typically 8-hour shifts).
• Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Perform repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, and handling products; manual dexterity for handling money and operating POS systems, including 10-key devices and SCO systems.
• Maintain clear communication with customers and team members; move quickly to assist customers and manage workload.
• Use cash handling tools, including counterfeit detection pens and related equipment.
• Maintain physical stamina to work in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

• Work Hours: Vary, with availability required on weekends, evenings, and holidays; typically 8-hour shifts for full-time employees.
• Environment: Indoor, climate-controlled, with adequate lighting and ventilation.
• Primary Work Stations: Check stand POS, SCO, and count room, with occasional assistance needed throughout the store.
• Dress Code: Professional attire as determined by store management; name tag and company-issued apparel as required.
• Exposure: May involve moving mechanical parts and cleaning chemicals; noise levels usually low to moderate with occasional loud periods.
