Job summary

Synergis is seeking a Release Train Engineer to lead Agile Release Trains (ARTs) in a SAFe environment. You will facilitate PI Planning, remove impediments, and ensure alignment across product management and development teams in a fast-paced setting.

The role requires 5+ years in Agile environments, SAFe knowledge, and strong facilitation and communication skills. You will guide Scrum Masters and Product Owners and drive continuous improvement.

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Release Train Engineer (RTE) to lead and coordinate Agile Release Trains (ARTs) in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment. The RTE will serve as a servant leader, facilitator, and coach, ensuring smooth execution of program-level activities and enabling the continuous delivery of high-value solutions. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to drive alignment across teams and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Program Execution & Facilitation
  • Lead and facilitate Agile Release Train (ART) events such as Program Increment (PI) Planning, Inspect and Adapt (I&A), System Demos, and ART Syncs.
  • Remove impediments, mitigate risks, and resolve dependencies across multiple Agile teams.
  • Ensure alignment between product management, systems architects, and development teams.
  • Oversee the execution of ART commitments and drive continuous improvement.
Agile Coaching & Leadership
  • Act as a servant leader to Agile teams, fostering collaboration and self-organization.
  • Guide teams in Agile best practices, Lean thinking, and SAFe principles.
  • Coach Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Delivery Team members on Agile methodologies.
  • Drive a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
  • Serve as a liaison between business leaders, portfolio management, and development teams.
  • Provide visibility into ART progress, risks, and dependencies.
  • Track key metrics (e.g., flow metrics: velocity, cycle time, load, efficiency, predictability) and ensure value delivery.
  • Facilitate cross-team collaboration and alignment on objectives.
Process Improvement & Transformation
  • Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for optimization in Agile delivery.
  • Support the adoption and evolution of SAFe frameworks within the organization.
  • Drive lean budgeting, value stream optimization, and Agile maturity growth.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
  • 5+ years of experience in Agile environments, with at least 2 years in an RTE role.
  • Deep understanding of SAFe principles and Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean).
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale programs and 10+ cross-functional teams.
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and servant leadership skills.
  • Experience in managing risks, dependencies, and organizational change.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution skills.
Preferred
  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification
  • Background in software development, IT, program/product management.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile Work Management tools (ie. Azure DevOps)

The hourly pay rate range for this position is dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location. Benefits available to full-time employees: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401k and commuter benefits.
