Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Release of Information (ROI) Specialist in Torrance, CA. You will process medical record requests, verify permissions, and ensure HIPAA compliance while delivering exceptional service to patients, providers, and third parties.

The role requires experience with EMR/EHR systems, including Epic, and strong data accuracy and confidentiality. This is an onsite contract position with TEKsystems, offering a structured work environment and opportunities to support healthcare

Qualifications

Release of Information (ROI) Specialist

Position Summary

The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist is responsible for processing medical record requests in compliance with HIPAA, state, and federal regulations. This role supports patients, providers, and healthcare organizations by ensuring the timely, accurate, and secure release of protected health information (PHI). The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and experienced in health information management systems, including Epic and ROI Navigator.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and fulfill requests for medical records, including retrieving, reviewing, scanning, and transmitting patient documentation.
• Verify the validity and completeness of authorizations, consent forms, and requests for protected health information in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
• Date-stamp, prioritize, and track incoming requests to ensure timely processing and completion within established service-level expectations.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all record release activities and ensure proper storage and handling of confidential information.
• Respond to patient, provider, and third-party inquiries regarding medical record requests and release procedures.
• Educate customers regarding confidentiality standards, privacy regulations, and release-of-information requirements.
• Utilize multiple systems and applications to receive, prioritize, and complete requests from various sources.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state regulations, federal guidelines, and organizational policies governing health information management.
• Provide exceptional customer service while addressing both internal and external customer needs.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to resolve issues and expedite urgent requests when appropriate.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of Release of Information (ROI) experience in a healthcare setting.
• Experience utilizing Epic, including the ROI Navigator module.
• Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality while handling sensitive medical information.
• Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy, including maintaining a high level of processing quality.
• Experience with electronic faxing, PDF applications, and document management systems.
• Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within a hospital, medical group, or health system environment.
• Knowledge of health information management best practices and medical records workflows.
• Familiarity with state and federal regulations related to medical records release and retention.

Work Environment

This position operates within a healthcare or health information management environment and requires frequent interaction with patients, providers, and internal departments. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Torrance, CA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
