Job summary

M.C. Dean is seeking a field technician with strong experience in protective relaying, metering and electrical testing. You will install, maintain and program protective relays and related equipment in energized electrical rooms, vaults, and substations, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.

You will interpret schematics, operate various test equipment, and coordinate testing with other departments. This role requires travel up to 50% and a valid U.S.

Qualifications

• NETA/NICET certification or equivalent hands-on testing experience.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25–50%.
• Valid U.S. work authorization.
• Strong knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NEC and OSHA standards.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and diagrams.
• Experience with protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers and switchgear.

Responsibilities

• Proficiently uses tools and meters to install, maintain and program protective relays in energized rooms, vaults, and substations.
• Reviews schematics, wiring diagrams and substation drawings; performs testing and inspections.
• Operates test equipment and follows safe-work practices per the company safety manual.
• Commissions new relay and metering installations.
• Coordinates testing and repairs with other departments.
• Maintains test records and documentation for compliance and client review.
• Participates in emergency callouts and on-call duties.
• Mentors junior technicians and supports commissioning/startup.
