Job summary

EPS seeks a Relay Technician II to perform testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protection and control systems in the Salem, VA area. You will support project execution through testing, troubleshooting, and reporting while building expertise in relay protection schemes.

The role emphasizes safety, strong technical skills, and collaboration with Senior Technicians and Engineers to deliver reliable protection solutions for clients across North America.

Qualifications

• Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Willing to overtime and travel as needed.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays in transmission, generation or distribution substations.
• Knowledge of relay test software.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to safety policies and participate in job briefings and hazard mitigation.
• Apply Human Performance Error Reduction concepts in daily work.
• Promote safe work behaviors and support safety initiatives.
• Perform relay testing with supervision from Senior Technicians and Engineers.
• Execute element, logic, and basic functional testing of protective relays and control systems.
• Evaluate in-service readings to verify performance and identify abnormalities.
• Conduct end-to-end testing and validate protection system operation.
• Perform and test communications installations such as SCADA, GOOSE, Modbus, fiber optics.
• Read and interpret diagrams and protection logic.
• Develop testing and isolation plans for safe execution.
• Create detailed reports including test results and calibration docs.
• Communicate clearly with team, clients, engineers, and stakeholders.
• Coordinate work with engineers and project teams to ensure alignment.
