Job summary

Empath Health in Florida is seeking a detail-oriented Reimbursement Specialist to join our Patient Accounting Team. You will compile, review, and process billing and accounts receivable documents, insurance bills, and payments to maintain revenue records.

You’ll prepare and submit monthly billings, reconcile cash receipts, and ensure accuracy of AR. You will follow up on denials and renew authorizations as needed.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree with one year billing/medical office experience preferred.
• Experience with Netsmart and HCHB EMR within 3 months.
• Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid billing regulations.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, reviews, and submits monthly billings; matches bills with census and checks accuracy.
• Records payments, performs monthly cash reconciliation, and maintains AR records.
• Reviews and corrects AR bills before transmission.
• Follows up on rejections and denials to collect payments from Medicare/Medicaid and insurers.
• Completes billing audits for accuracy and compliance.
• Handles inquiries from insurers and case managers about patient status and authorizations.

Job description

Empath Health is seeking a detailed-oriented Reimbursement Specialist to join our Patient Accounting Team. In this role, the Reimbursement Specialist compiles, reviews, and processes billing and accounts receivable documents, insurance bills and payments, and prepares and maintains all accounts receivable and patient service revenue records and reports.

What You’ll Do

• Prepares, reviews, and submits monthly billings according to established procedures. Matches bills with census and identifies discrepancies; reviews patient billing revenues for accuracy.
• Records all payments as received, performs monthly reconciliation of cash receipts; and maintains accounts receivable records and reports.
• Reviews and corrects accounts receivable bills/records before transmission or mailing.
• Continuously works on clearing rejections, denials and returned claims, performing all necessary follow-up to ensure collection of payments from Medicare/Medicaid and Insurance providers.
• Completes billing audits to ensure accuracy and/or compliance.
• Receives and answers inquiries from insurance sources/Case Managers regarding patient status or obtaining updated authorizations.

What You’ll Need

• Associates Degree with one year previous billing/medical office related experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in general healthcare billing practices; proficiency with billing software and Netsmart, HCHB EMR within 3 months of post-hire.
• Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid billing regulations.
• Knowledge and familiarity with medical terminology.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
• Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database applications and medical billing applications.
