Job summary

Empath Health in Bradenton, FL is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance Team. The Accountant will prepare financial statements, ensure accurate general ledger activity, and support timely reporting for Empath Health and its Affiliates.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 3+ years in general ledger accounting, with GAAP knowledge and proficiency in Excel; Workday experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• 3+ years of progressive general ledger accounting experience.
• Experience in healthcare or not-for-profit preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office; Workday experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality assurance review over routine GL work.
• Record, reconcile, analyze and/or approve payroll and cash receipts activity.
• Prepare accruals for significant liability areas.
• Record and maintain work-in-process and fixed asset subledgers and reconciling to the general ledger.
• Prepare financial statements, account reconciliations and bank reconciliations and perform analysis.
• Prepare schedules for grant reporting compliance.
• Review and summarize contracts/agreements and research accounting treatment for fund accounting and trusts.

Job description

Empath Health is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance Team. The Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and other general ledger-related reconciliations and reporting for Empath Health and its’ Affiliates, and is responsible for certain regulatory compliance including, but not limited to State and Federal tax returns, Federal and State cost reports and Federal, State and Local grant reporting. The Accountant will also assist with preparation of entity and grant related operating budgets.

What you'll Do

• Provide quality assurance review over routine work of General Ledger Accountants and general ledger coding by parties externally to General Ledger Personnel.
• Record, reconcile, analyze and/or approve payroll and cash receipts activity.
• Prepare and/or monitor accruals for significant liability areas such as MHB, Workers Compensation, Room & Board, Inpatient and Respite.
• Record and maintain work-in-process and fixed asset subledgers and reconciling to the general ledger.
• Prepare financial statements, account reconciliations and bank reconciliations and perform analysis of these items.
• Prepare necessary schedules for Federal, State and local grant reporting compliance.
• Review and summarize contracts/agreements; and research, as necessary, and apply appropriate accounting treatment related to fund accounting and trusts.

What You'll Need

• Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is required. 3+ years of progressive general ledger accounting experience, public accounting or healthcare, is preferred.
• Experience in complex accounting systems, hospice, or not-for-profit healthcare is desired.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and account reconciliation process.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office.Workday experience is highly preferred.
• Proven ability to analyze complex financial data, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience with multi-entries is required.
