Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent will perform varied and complex professional and regulatory activities related to the Boards of Osteopathic Medicine, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, Massage Therapy, Acupuncture and the Council of Licensed Midwifery, with primary focus on Massage Therapy and Midwifery.

The incumbent will be required to exercise independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments to completion. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of Florida Statutes and Rules governing licensing and regulation. Work is performed under the supervision of the Program Operations Administrator and is reviewed for accuracy and completion by periodic review of work product and day-to-day observation of work habits.

The incumbent independently evaluates applicant qualifications for licensure in accordance with statutory and rule requirements and obtains supplemental information as required to determine eligibility for licensure, certification, or registration.

The incumbent serves as the subject matter expert for massage establishment applications and as a primary processor for massage establishment initial and change of name and location applications. The incumbent will:

  • Process applications in the licensing database (LEIDS) as appropriate and issue correspondence concerning application deficiencies to applicants in process or licensure to approved applicants.
  • Assist with administrative duties related to the processing of applications including, but not limited to processing supplemental documentation, preparing supplemental documentation for scanning, and preparing refund forms.
  • Analyze and recommend solutions to administrative problems relating to application deficiencies and required qualifications.
  • Respond to general inquiries from the public by telephone, email, and in writing in an appropriate and timely fashion. Interpret customer questions and provide answers to general and complex regulatory questions. Provide application status updates and directions to applicants and licensees concerning licensing processes and the submission of applications or requests. Transfer customers to the other areas of the Department or other agencies when appropriate.
  • Update applications in the licensing database (LEIDS) following additional review completed by other sections or units.
  • Summarize and prepare application files and supporting documentation for review by Board chairs, committees, Boards, or Councils when appropriate.

The incumbent independently reviews reports related to application processing and audits applications which appear on those reports to determine what actions must be taken, in accordance with statutory and rule requirements. The incumbent will:

  • Review massage establishment applications, massage establishment change of name applications, and massage establishment change of name and location applications which appear on the Initial Applications to Expire Report and update the status application files in the licensing database (LEIDS) when they have met retention.
  • Review Background Screening Report and Background Screening queues in LEIDs; update applications which have results or require further action concerning criminal history, as appropriate.
  • Review Inspections for Open Applications report to confirm that licenses have issued correctly, or to determine what further action is needed for applications with failing inspection results.
  • Identify massage establishment applications which may be denied; prepare documentation and notify management as appropriate.
