Job summary

Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking a Licensing Specialist to perform regulatory inspections and investigations of licensed providers in Region II. The role entails reviewing complaints, issuing licenses, and offering guidance to ensure services align with regulations.

It is a field position with daytime travel; telework is approved 100% but onsite meetings may be required at the Central Office in Richmond.

Qualifications

• Understanding of clinical assessments and how they tie to service plan development and implementation.
• Experience with individuals with substance use disorders, mental health diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities.
• Administrative, management and/or quality assurance experience with public and private service delivery systems.
• Experience in interpreting regulations and policies.
• Ability to develop professional relationships and discuss potential concerns with providers, along with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Monitor provider compliance by reviewing complaints and reports of serious incidents and by conducting inspections and investigations.
• Issue and modify licenses and review requests to modify services.
• Provide regulatory technical assistance to providers on compliance with regulations and on developing systemic corrective actions.
• Recommend licensing actions based on regulatory compliance.
